May 7, 2004 - Düsseldorf, Germany – Xitron, the industry’s leading independent developer and integrator of Raster Image Processors, Dynagram, the recognized authority in digital imposition and Global Graphics, a leading developer and supplier of sophisticated high performance RIPs, PDF document, workflow and color solutions, announce today that they will be showing a real life JDF workflow in the Xitron booth at Drupa, stand A1 in Hall 7.
JDF creates bridges between each process in the printing stream. As more vendors become JDF compliant, the full benefits of the technology will become apparent to end-users worldwide. It will allow users to follow their print jobs from genesis through completion. It will also afford them flexibility for last minute changes as they will be able to be made without going back into the imposition software for the modifications.
DynaStrip passes the JDF imposition commands along with content and printer's marks to Xitron’s XiFlow workflow server. XiFlow uses Global Graphics JDF Enabler to interpret the JDF information and direct the RIP to generate imposed flats. The updated JDF data is then output by the system for use in future process steps.
Xitron has embedded the JDF Enabler into its XiFlow prepress workflow system. XiFlow will accept the JDF instructions and interact with the JDF Enabler to configure the Navigator RIP to output the job.
As systems continue to enable JDF technology Xitron, Dynagram and Global Graphics have laid the ground work and are well positioned to communicate information both up and down stream to other JDF enabled components.
“Printers will be looking for ways that they can implement and take advantage of JDF in their current real world environments. This partnership and implementation is an example of how JDF can be
utilized today. Global Graphics is driving ahead with its JDF strategy with the launch of the JDF-enabled Harlequin RIP at drupa. The process automation offered by JDF and the fact that we have developed a JDF enabler module, means that Global Graphics technology components can be even more easily adapted into OEM applications and products. This demonstration is a first rate example of how JDF offers a communications platform that allows third party technologies to talk to each other,” says Bryan Hartong, VP of sales and marketing at Global Graphics.
“This initiative between Xitron, Global Graphics and Dynagram is to make JDF and its true benefits less abstract to the clients. We feel this setup will clearly demonstrate the capabilities of such a JDF-enabled workflow and how it can benefit the users” says François Guérard, president of Dynagram.
“Xitron believes an open standard such as JDF is important since the needs of users vary so greatly. We are proud to partner wth Global Graphics and Dynagram to demonstrate this open standard with XiFlow,” expressed Bill Owens, Product Manager Navigator Solutions, Xitron.
As JDF-enabled vendors, Dynagram and Global Graphics have been exchanging sample files and discussing workflows since last summer and have actively participated in CIP4 interoperability testings. These tests allowed them to certify that JDF information was able to pass between their mutual applications.
Navigator is Xitron’s implementation of the Global Graphics Harlequin RIP. Xitron boasts interfaces to more that 150 output devices allowing you to drive all the devices in your prepress department with one RIP workflow. Xitron’s XiFlow is a client-server prepress workflow solution for Harlequin RIPs providing job management, client preview, PDF preflight, and more.
Global Graphics provides a range of core technologies such as the Harlequin RIP, the Jaws RIP and Jaws PDF, to OEM partners more than 30 of whom are exhibiting at drupa, as well at the JDF Enablers used in the Xitron Navigator and XiFlow products.
DynaStrip is a powerful standalone suite of digital imposition solutions developed to meet an entire range of imposition needs. DynaStrip is quickly becoming the norm in the industry because it has an infinite number of imposition capabilities and easily integrates into major workflows. Automation is the ultimate goal for the industry. DynaStrip’s support for JDF not only offers communication and integration benefits but also provides job automation functionalities for printers who require hands-off imposition.
