How is Xenith doing?
We are happy with the Xenith system. If we look back to the day we installed Xenith, it is clear we made a good decision. There is no part of the decision we can see a
problem with.
We started looking for an upgrade to our RIP because we could not process PostScript 3 or PDF files. The upgrade to TruFlow with Screen was too expensive. We also wanted to prepare our prepress department with an all-digital workflow for when we integrate CTP.
In addition to Xitron’s Xentith Extreme, we looked at Screen TruFlow, Fuji Celebrant, Creo Prinergy, Heidelberg and Agfa Apogee. In the end we chose Xitron’s Xenith Extreme because:
- It has an Adobe PostScript 3 interpreter.
- It was less expensive and has superior features.
- Most important, the Xitron solution is open, giving us
the flexibility to make the choice later about a vendor
for the platesetter.
Over and above the ability to process PostScript 3 and PDF files, the biggest advantage we see with Xenith over our old system is the use of the CIP4 connection to our press. We have a Ryobi PDS Console on our press that uses the CIP4 PDF ink key files to set the ink properly for each individual job. We estimate a 25% savings in time to prepare the press for a run. This gives money back to the
company immediately. With shorter preparation times on press, we can do more work. Furthermore, the quality of our work is more consistent.
Our press operator has very quickly learned to rely on the CIP4 PDF Ink key data. It makes his job much easier since the color adjustments are already made when the job is put on the press. If there is a job that gets to the press room without the CIP4 files, he goes into the prepress department and says, “Where is my file?!” |
